Kensington’s Hidden Gem

The Britannia is tucked away just off Kensington’s busy High Street at No. 1 Allen Street, in the heart of the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea. Located on the site of the old ‘Britannia Tap’ Brewery site, our pub is steeped in history and has proudly been serving guests since 1834.

We are home to the very best of British classic dishes that champions the seasonal ingredients from the abundant larder of the British Isles. So whether you’re joining us for a pint of real ale in our beautiful pub, enjoying some hearty British classics in our dining room, we fully encourage you to make yourself at home.

George and the team can’t wait to welcome you.

A Six Nations Celebration

With all games being shown throughout the pub, Kensington’s cosiest spot is the place to enjoy the Six Nations this Spring.

From Family reunions to epic catch-up pints with your pals, from loyal locals to overseas visitors to Kensington High Street; we are opening our doors to all rugby fans to bask in the cauldron of cheers and gasps of the Six Nations.

Fancy the cosy crackle of the fireplace, or perhaps you want to go all out to enjoy the sporting action for your Spring soiree in our private Willow & Monte rooms? You’ll be spoilt for choice on which nook of the pub you wish to watch all the tackles and tries!

The British Pub Experience

Perfect for those visiting the area from afar and seasoned regulars alike, our ‘Great British Pub Experience’ gives you a taste of the best traditional British pub food in the heart of the royal borough of Chelsea & Kensington. Enjoy three courses from our seasonal menu, each paired with a half pint from our extensive range of beers/ales; starting with the classic Scotch egg and a half pint of Young’s, on to the quintessential fish & chips paired with Young’s Sun, and rounding off with an indulgent double chocolate brownie and Guinness. Make sure you arrive hungry!

Tale in a Tankard

Situated on Allen Street, named after the dashing Thomas Allen, a tailor turned military uniform supplier during the Napoleonic wars, this charming pub has quite the story to tell. In 1834, it also housed the Britannia Brewery, alongside partners Edward Herington and William Wells. Their brewery journey took a rocky path, leading to bankruptcy in 1902, a revival, and a final fall in 1924 when Young & Co stepped in. Originally, our pub was known as The Britannia Brewery Tap but got a makeover in 1938. It proudly stands as a living relic, still echoing the bones of its 1834 roots. So, join us for a pint and a glimpse into history at Britannia Pub – we’re not just a pub; we’re a tale in a tankard!

Parties & Celebrations

From family celebrations and wedding receptions to meetings and corporate dinners, our Monty and Willow Rooms are the perfect spaces for events. With our friendly team on hand to help you every step of the way, you can be sure that your event will run without a hitch when you celebrate with us in the heart of Kensington, at The Britannia!

A Hidden Gem

I stumbled upon this one early-ish on a weekday. I had just arrived and wanted a good lunch and a pint. Because this pub seems to be hiding from the world, it was empty. Something I’m not used to with pubs at lunchtimes. Very cozy and plush, I could have stayed in this one all day. There was a fire going and the food was great.

Pleasant Dining Experience

Pleasant space at back for table dining and small side terrace; really good food and beer/wine selection and smiling service… What more do you need?

Nostalgic Pub Classic

Every place has a different take on bangers and mash, as does every person. My opinion was formed in the Cambridge area close to thirty years ago when I first encountered the dish. Brittania’s is very close. 5 stars for nostalgia.

Fantastic Spot in London

A great pub to go and enjoy a few drinks with your friends or have a nice meal. The atmosphere is really nice and everyone that works there are absolutely brilliant, especially the waiting staff who made our visit extra special with their kind and courteous attitude. Will certainly be back again soon!
